What is farm planning, management, and record keeping software?
Farm planning, management, and record keeping software combines many information management tools that farmers are familiar with and use daily in a single software package. AgSquared brings together the best features of your farm notebook, calendar, blackboard, maps and spreadsheets to help you with your planning, scheduling, task management, scouting and record keeping. In addition, by bringing these features together AgSquared offers advantages unavailable with traditional farm planning and management tools. With AgSquared you will be able to:

  • Easily search your records so you can always find just what you're looking for.
  • Draw an interactive map of your farm to help you accurately measure your fields and plan your plantings.
  • Connect your inputs to your field activities to your harvests, giving you a complete view of what happened each season.
  • Automatically summarize and analyze your records to help you see the big picture and identify ways to improve your productivity.
  • View your records anytime from anywhere.

And, because information on AgSquared is securely stored online, it can never get lost, get wet, get erased, or get eaten by the dog, as could happen with traditional farm planning and management tools.

When will AgSquared roll out additional features?
AgSquared is growing quickly this year, and we will periodically be introducing new features that expand what you can do with AgSquared while making your farm management process even simpler. We can't wait to share some of the cool things that we are building, and look forward to getting your feedback. But don’t worry – as we release new features, all the farm maps, inventory records, crop plans, and other information that you've already put in AgSquared will remain unchanged.

What kind of information about your farm can you track or record on AgSquared?
AgSquared lets you keep track of the people, places and things ("nouns") on your farms and the activities ("verbs") that connect them together. Our simple grammar of nouns and verbs allows you to keep track of everything that you do in the field, in the greenhouse, and on the potting bench in AgSquared. Some examples of what you will be able to track in AgSquared include:

  • field and crop observations
  • sowing, planting, composting and input application records
  • growth stage records
  • crop damage records
  • harvest records
  • weather data

We’ll also allow you to keep track of related information about your inventory, your staff, your farm's schedule, and in the near future your sales, too.

Record keeping on my computer is great, but when will I be able to take notes from the field?
AgSquared can't wait to go mobile! We plan to release an AgSquared mobile app during 2011 that will let you take photos, jot down notes, or look up your schedule from the field, the farmer’s market, or anywhere in between.  Our mobile app will let you access and add information to your AgSquared account on the go, and make farm management and record keeping even easier.

Is there an offline version of your software?
Unfortunately, we are not able to offer an offline version of our software at this time. To keep AgSquared free for farmers, we must keep our costs low, and online software is less expensive to maintain and support than desktop software. We do, however, take efforts to ensure that our software has low bandwidth requirements, so that it will run well even on slow internet connections. Additionally, we hope that by making AgSquared available to you through the internet we are creating not just software, but a community, which would not be possible with desktop software.

I am a home gardener. Can I use AgSquared?
Of course you can use AgSquared! AgSquared was designed with the commercial farmer in mind, but we know that many gardeners are quite serious about their planning and growing and take care to use sustainable practices in the management of their gardens. We believe that AgSquared’s software can help streamline those garden planning and management tasks. However, if “square-foot” gardening is more your style, you might find software such as EZ-Garden to be just right for you.
